Background on Child Haven's Newest project in Bangladesh
We were hesitant to expend our projects beyond our financial means but felt if enough local support was behind the project we could consider it.
In the wake of the bombings in New York, we felt it was important for North American's to have a greater understanding of people of other cultures, and especially of Muslim people. We believed that by setting up a children's home in a predominately Muslim country would be our way of helping others understand acceptance. The local committee in Bangladesh has agreed to follow our Gandhian philosophies, including equality to women, acceptance of all religions and the education of both sexes.
This home was officially opened in September 2002. We are currently operating out of rented quarters and have hired a co-ordinator and care-givers. We are hoping to begin hiring teachers shortly but need the funds to set up a school type atmosphere. Funds will be required to cover the salaries of 2 teachers , purchase desks, slate boards, books and other teaching supplies.
Proposal for Funding
We propose to initiate a program to teach up to 50 destitute children, by hiring 2 full time teachers to teach the children.
We also propose to teach the children their own cultural arts. We would hope to hire someone who can teach them music and dance.
