The Hyderabad home was opened officially in 1986, with 27 children from three remote villages. In 1992 we moved to larger quarters where, at the present time, we care
for one hundred and forty-five formerly destitute children, ranging in age from newborn to twenty-one years. They attend local schools where the Telegu language is spoken. Extra tutoring is given in the home after school.
The home manager employs eighteen women who work as matron, caregivers, cooks, nurses, tutors, SoyaCow operators and office staff.
Many of the children are from very poor rural areas; some are the children of destitute Tribal people. On the invitation of the former Governor, Her Excellency Kumudben Joshi, Child Haven is
caring for several children of Jogini women and children of women working as prostitutes in Hyderabad, who seek a more sheltered environment for their children.
